OUR STORY

Straight Buckets Performance began as a personal hoop dream that evolved into a mission of serving others with Training That Translates, helping athletes achieve their own hoop dreams. SBP was born from the trials and tribulations of founder Joe Brooks’ athletic and basketball journey—a journey that instilled discipline, resilience, and work ethic. From training in a 10x20 home garage to expanding into a 4,000 square foot facility in Portland, SBP has become a hub for athletes pushing beyond their limits. At SBP, we believe that success is a continual process—there’s no finish line, only the pursuit of becoming.

JOE BROOKS

Owner + Performance Trainer

JOURNEY:

  • A few impactful “no’s” in high school pushed him to develop his athletic potential, with the goal of playing college basketball and competing overseas.

  • Overcame Type 1 Diabetes diagnosis, injuries, and life-threatening seizures that kept him off the court.

  • Honed athleticism, defense and started training his teammates — became head of strength and conditioning at Warner Pacific College while still a player.

  • Decided to move on from his last year of playing to focus fully on his rapidly growing training business.

APPROACH:

  • Connecting the weight room work to on-court performance resonated with players - quickly gained traction with top high school talent in Oregon and even bigger names like NBA players Nassir Little, Jazian Gortman and Antoine Davis.

  • The combination of inspiring a consistent work ethic, based on his own experiences, and translating that to on-court performance is something Joe continues to sharpen and implement as a leader.

  • Addressing the whole player - from character to performance on the court and off the court is the goal, it’s bigger than basketball.
